A LITTLE TASTE OF HISTORY
A LITTLE TASTE OF HISTORY
Let's go back in time a little: After a long trip from Germany in the early 1800s, John Jacob Buhman and his wife Genevieve arrived in New York. Because the Panama Canal was yet to be built, the Buhman's journeyed around the horn of South America; eventually settling in a booming town on the West Coast called San Francisco. They would eventually find their way to Napa Valley where Buhman Estate Vineyards would become part of the historic Buhman Cattle Ranch. This famous ranch is nestled on the curvy country road also named Buhman, in the heart of Napa Valley. After it's initial location on Redwood Road in Napa Valley, the dairy ranch moved to it's present location on Buhman Avenue. John Jacob Buhman’s descendants have raised cattle on this ranch ever since.
Great grandson Don Buhman has also been raising cattle all his life. Although, he’s not just a real live cowboy he’s a farmer too. 24 years ago he replanted and started growing grapes on the ranch for well-known wineries such as Mumm, Rombauer, Naked wines, Prisoner, Artesa, Pine Ridge, Sterling, Joel Gott and Schramsberg to name just a few. Don simply acquired a passion for the love of the vine and Suzanne Javorina. Together, they established the confidents in Don's vision and started making wine together and founded Buhman Estate Vineyards.
